After Trump shows interest to buy Greenland, Denmark hits back with a stinging jibe, offers to buy America with 'provision to relocate the President'

After reports of US President Donald Trump intending that his country should buy off Greenland, the autonomous region of Denmark, the Danish have not only rebuffed the former reality show star but also took a dig at his presidency saying that they would rather buy America, as under his rule, everything in the country has been for sale. 

A report quoted a Danish government spokesperson saying that Greenland is not for sale, but that the country's officials have noted that since 'pretty much everything in the U.S, including its government has been for sale', they were interested in buying the North American nation. To rub salt into the wound, the spokesperson said that his country would be interested in buying the entire United States except its government.

The jibe did not end there. The spokesperson said that one of the key provision of Denmark's offer would be to relocate Donald Trump to another country. Russia and North Korea were cited as possible destinations. The Danish spokie also said that if his country indeed bought the U.S, it would provide it educational system and national health care to transform it into a great nation.

Trump on 'buying Greenland'

As per reports, aiming to put his mark on the world map, President Donald Trump had talked to aides and allies about buying Greenland for the U.S. A Trump ally told The Associated Press on Thursday that the Republican president had discussed the purchase but was not serious about it. And a Republican congressional aide said Trump brought up the notion of buying Greenland in conversations with lawmakers enough times to make them wonder, but they have not taken his comments seriously. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Trump is set to visit Denmark next month.

U.S has been eyeing Greenland

Still, it wouldn't be the first time an American leader tried to buy the world's largest island, an autonomous territory of Denmark.In 1946, the U.S. proposed to pay Denmark $100 million to buy Greenland after flirting with the idea of swapping land in Alaska for strategic parts of the Arctic island.
