There are a reported 662 more confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Arkansas and seven more deaths due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the disease, the Arkansas Department of Health said Saturday.

The department reported 43,173 confirmed cases of the virus and 460 deaths, an increase from the 42,511 cases and 453 deaths on Friday.

The state Department of Correction also reports three inmates being treated for COVID-19 have died in the past week, bringing to at least 30 the number of inmates who have succumbed to the illness, according to department spokesperson Cindy Murphy.

The actual number of cases in Arkansas is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.

The health department reported 36,034 people have recovered from the virus.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
