Biden: Rioting 'thugs' will be held accountable

President-elect Joe Biden says those who stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, resulting in destruction of property and five deaths, should be considered "thugs, insurrectionists" and "domestic terrorists."

Biden said the attack "should be thoroughly investigated" and those responsible should be "held accountable." The president-elect also said he wants his Justice Department to take steps  to ensure "this never happens again."

Asked whether he believes his inauguration will be safe after Wednesday's insurrection, Biden said it's the Secret Service that handles inaugural events and he "has great confidence" in that agency and "great confidence in their ability to make sure the inauguration goes off safely and goes off without a hitch."
