California: 4 dead, 6 injured after gunmen open fire at backyard party

Four people were shot dead in Fresno, California on Nov 17 after suspects sneaked into the backyard and opened fire on a crowd gathered to watch a football game

Four people were shot dead in Fresno, California on November 17 after suspects sneaked into the backyard and opened fire on a gathering. A family and friends had gathered to watch a football game on the city’s southeast side when the shooting took place around 6 pm, said Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley.

“Everyone was watching football this evening when unknown suspects approached the residence, snuck into the backyard and opened fire,” said Dooley.

Six victims in stable condition

Talking to local TV stations, Fresno Police Deputy Chief Michael Reid informed that ten people were shot and three of them died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital. According to the police, six other victims are recovering in the hospital and are expected to survive the shooting. Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in San Francisco said in a tweet that they were responding to the shooting.

No arrests in the case

While the investigation is underway, none of the suspects has been arrested in the case. Police are looking for surveillance video to track down the suspects. Reid said that they are going to do everything they can to find out the perpetrators are and bring them to justice.

Recent shooting incidents

California, which boasts of some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, witnessed numerous shooting incidents recently. On November 14, two students were shot dead by a 16-year-old schoolmate who, later, killed himself with the same gun. The victims of the school shooting were identified as 15-year-old Gracie Anne Muehlberger and 14-year-old Dominic Blackwell. In another shooting incident, a husband shot and killed his wife and three of their sons, on November 16, before killing himself while the fourth son wounded in the shooting was on life support.
