California is preparing for a wildfire season made more difficult by the threat of the coronavirus.

Governor Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that the health of first responders during firefighting efforts is a top priority.

Emergency managers are also formulating plans to segregate fire evacuees with COVID-19 in emergency shelters.

Newsom said that precipitation and snowpack have been lower than last year, which could fuel an increase in wildfires.

His state budget will include increased money for firefighting efforts.
