Some 250 children who crossed the US border with Mexico without their parents will arrive at a fairgrounds in a Los Angeles suburb on Saturday. The facility has medical personnel, food, soccer fields and toys including a stuffed animal on each child's cot.
Acting regional director of the US Department of Health and Human Services, Bonne Preston, calls it "an amazing outdoor space." The Pomona Fairplex, home to the Los Angles County Fair, is being set up to house up to 2,500 children.
250 children from 7 to 14 years old will arrive on Saturday. This is the second such site in the Los Angeles area. The Long Beach Convention Center is also being used to house unaccompanied migrant children.
