A Chicago official said that the city's cases of COVID-19 are "still on the uphill rise" and they will "continue to rise for some time."

Dr. Allison Arwady of the Chicago Department of Public Health joined Mayor Lori Lightfoot at Wednesday's briefing.

"Trust that some of that is testing and some of that is rising disease," says Arwady. "We're keeping very close eye on the data."

As of Tuesday, Chicago had recorded more than 20 deaths.

Lightfoot announced Wednesday that a city employee had died of COVID-19, but she didn't identify the worker or the city department.

Lightfoot says a temporary medical facility that's being constructed at Chicago's McCormick Place convention center won't be ready for patients this week.

Chicago and the rest of Illinois is under a stay-at-home order until April 30.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
