Authorities closed off a section of a major highway in California as firefighters battled a large blaze on Sunday.

The fire near Agua Dulce, forced the temporary closure of a stretch of State Route 14, which connects Los Angeles to the Mojave Desert.

The fire burned about 400 acres, according to officials.

Local media have reported that several homes near the blaze were evacuated.

The fire was one of many in the state during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

In San Francisco, at least 100 fires were recorded in a nine-hour period on Saturday.

Some of the blazes were thought to have been sparked by illegal fireworks.
