BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has revealed an interesting link binding himself with former President of the US George HW Bush who passed away at the age of 94 on Friday (Saturday IST).

Taking to Twitter, the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament has harkened back almost three decades to the time when Bush Sr was the US President and Chandrashekhar was the Prime Minister of India. Dr Swamy writes that as during the Chandrashekhar term, as he was the most senior-most minister, he had interacted with the US over the 1990-91 Gulf War. For this, George Bush Sr had him over at the 1992 Republican party convention in Houston.

It was at this convention that George Bush Sr was nominated by the GOP for re-election. It was also notable for featuring the last major political address of Bush's predecessor and US actor-turned-politician-elected-President Ronald Reagan.

However, the subsequent election saw Bush Sr being defeated by Bill Clinton who would go on to complete two terms as President, being succeeded by George W Bush.

George HW Bush's office put out the following statement after his death:

"George HW Bush, World War 2 naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018. He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two siblings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; his second child Pauline Robinson "Robin" Bush; and his brothers Prescott and William or "Busky" Bush."

His son George Bush Jr said, "George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for", adding, He was "a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41's life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens," Bush Jr added.

President Bush was suffering from Parkinson's syndrome that forced him to use a wheelchair in recent years, and he had been in and out of hospitals in recent months as his health declined.
