Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton has said that if ex-United States President Trump comes to power in 2024, Washington more likely will leave the Western military bloc North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Bolton, who served in the Trump administration for over a year, warned during an interview with NewsNation that Trump's re-election would threaten US' relationship with NATO. Labelling the Republican leader's foreign policy as "erratic" and self-serving, Bolton said, "Donald Trump doesn’t really have a philosophy, as we understand it in political terms."

"He [Trump] doesn’t think in policy directions when he makes decisions, certainly in the national security space. It’s really all connected with how things benefit Donald Trump," Bolton stated.

Trump's foreign dealings failed: Bolton

While many Republicans tout Trump's foreign policy as the best during his tenure in the White House, Bolton argued that Trump will pull out of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization if he is reelected. “He doesn’t think in policy directions when he makes decisions, certainly in the national security space. It’s all connected with how things benefit Donald Trump," Bolton said about Trump. During his campaign, Trump reminded the American voters that there were no wars during his presidency in 2020. He opposed the "globalist" interests and claimed that he would avoid "World War III," as well as end the war in Ukraine within "24 hours."

Trump administration is credited with brokering the historic peace agreements between Israel UAE, Bahrain Sudan and Morroco via the Abraham Accords. Trump's administration also struck the trade deals between the US, Mexico and Canada.

“Those who make these claims about what Trump did in his first term don’t really understand how we got to the places we did. Because many of the things they now give Trump credit for, he wanted to go in the opposite direction," Bolton said of the Republican supporters.

Trump's National Security Adviser reminded that Trump torpedoed the Iran Nuclear Deal, and his negotiations with the Taliban led to the withdrawal of the US military from Kabul. US withdrawal from Afghanistan was a “disastrous mistake,” Bolton stated, adding that not only did Trump's dealings with Iran failed but he threatened the US relationship with NATO. “In a second Trump term, we’d almost certainly withdraw from NATO,” Bolton claimed.
