The DTE Energy Foundation says it supplied 100,000 masks to Detroit-area hospitals on Wednesday and has 2 million more in the pipeline.

The KN95 respirator masks remove particles from the air that are breathed through it.

Hospitals in the area are running critically short of the mask that can stem the spread of the virus to doctors and nurses.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems are among those particularly susceptible to more severe illness, including pneumonia.
