Girl Shoots Herself In The Face, Gets 100% Face Transplant

Plastic surgery is known for doing wonders and blunders. Although, in this particular case it changed the life of  Katie Stubblefield, who is just 21 years old and is recovering suicide victim. Before this miraculous transformation, the 21-year-old had to undergo 17 surgeries. The main reason for her disfigured face was because of her trying to attempt suicide at the age of 18, as she suffered from various emotional problems. At a young age, Katie tried to shoot herself in the face but survived and the self-inflicted gunshot is still very much visible. But due to the blunt force, it ended up disfiguring her nose and eyes, because of which she is partially blind. Katie was on the list for a face transformation from 2016 and only after a year, she found a favorable donor where almost 100% of her face was reconstructed. Her family has been extremely supportive towards her transformation and have been there for her every time she is in need. The historic transformation was done by Cleveland Clinic, and after her transformation, she became the 40th patient to get one done. In the USA, she has also become the youngest one to get a face transplant done. She has also been featured on the cover of National Geographic Magazine.

For her transformation, the doctors used a wide variety of technological measures such as surgical rehearsal, 3D printing, and virtual reality. After her operation, she has been asked to take medicines all her life and is also told to attend group therapy which includes sessions with a certain speech therapist. The hospital hs also filmed the entire thing, and a video of her getting the transplant has been obtained. Reports have suggested that her family looks at the transformation in the sense of four steps forward, but two steps backward. However, the family has revealed that no matter the number of forward or backward steps, there has always been a progress and they are glad that they were able to support and be there for Katie throughput her entire journey.
