Joe Biden's meeting Thursday with a group of Democratic and Republican governors is his latest attempt to fight through President Donald Trump's unprecedented attempt to block the president-elect's transition to power.

Biden and Vice president elect Kamala Harris held a press briefing in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, saying governors will get the help they need to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

In opening remarks Harris said: "Our message to our governors and to all of our nation, state and local leaders is simple. President elect Biden and I will make sure you have the resources and support you need to save lives and help get our economy back on track."

Biden and Harris earlier in a virtual meeting with governors, expressed concern Trump's unprecedented attempt to block the peaceful transition of power at the White House has hindered the flow of information about programs to fast-track a coronavirus vaccine.

The president-elect tells the National Governors Association's leadership team that his incoming team "hasn't been able to get everything we need" from the Trump administration. Biden is specifically citing "Operation Warp Speed," the federal government's partnership with private pharmaceutical companies to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. Biden promises state leaders that he'll "make sure you get the resources you need ... to beat this virus."

"When it comes to this pandemic and the economic recovery, we are not Democrats or Republicans. We are Americans and we will be there for one another. That's the kind of leadership the American people need and deserve, Harris said.
