A fight in Edison High School, California, came to an unexpected end when a Marine who was there to help with military recruitment, sprinted towards two students and tackled them to the ground. 18-year-old Josue Valdez Sarmiento, is a Marine who had recently graduated from the same High School. Although the Marine has now been reassigned to office duties and will not be allowed near school premises, his decision to intervene was applauded by his seniors.

Maj. Thomas Driscoll, Valdez superior claimed "He saw a dangerous fight break out. Upon observing that situation, he moved over and broke up the fight. Although, the manner in which he did could have been improved, we are proud of Pfc. Valdez Sarmiento for his decision to intervene."

The conditions of the two students involved were not made official by the school. However, according to the reports Pfc. Valdez Sarmiento received counselling and learned how to better respond to these kinds of situations in the future.

Parents' reaction

The video soon went viral leaving the parents very unhappy. Mario Patino, an Edison High School parent claimed that the Marine was a grown man with an extremely well-built body. He was very upset with the way the Marine took down the kids with no second thought. He was upset and believes that the force used by the Marine was unnecessary and strongly condemned that someone like Valdez shouldn't be allowed on campus. On the other hand, there were parents who supported the Marine's action and said that it was totally justified. They believe that the Marine helped stop the fight from escalating further.
