Gov. Tate Reeves on Saturday urged Mississipi residents to be on alert as two tropical storms, Laura and Marco, are expected to hit the state in coming days.
At a briefing with emergency officials, Reeves warned shelter space was limited because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The governor said "what we cannot have happen is if this thing is to strengthen on Sunday or Monday to have a mad rush of people into our sheltering space."
The National Hurricane Center said early Saturday that hurricane hunters out of Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi have determined storm Marco is strengthening, and storm Laura's center is still disorganized, but is still making its way westward toward the Gulf of Mexico.
