Elmhurst Hospital in New York City is at capacity and overwhelmed with coronavirus patients, according to a New York City council member. Councilman Daniel Dromm says patients with other health problems are being taken to other facilities. "Those who are dealing with heart issues, those who are dealing with cancer, etc. have been taken out of this hospital so that we can accommodate folks with Covid in Elmhurst Hospital," Dromm said.

An EMS Union representative said the hosital is over run with patients.

"EMS's misses last night broke a record. We handled sixty-five hundred calls," Anthony Almojera said, "a big majority of them I'm sure we brought to this hospital."

"And the hospital has finite resources. I'm sure they're going to run out of masks just like we are and other equipment. And I'm sure also that the staff and there is taxed meaning working multiple hours, just like we are in the fire department in EMS."

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
