Former U.S. President Barack Obama addressed the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night from Philadelphia and warned that American democracy itself was at risk if President Donald Trump wins reelection this fall.

Obama spoke about Americans of previous generations who fought for rights and democracy, saying "I have seen that same spirit rising these past few years," describing Americans who have demonstrated to stop families from being separated at the U.S. Border, called for protection of the environment and marched in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

He also warned of the dangers that the Trump administration presents to democracy right now.

"This administration has shown that it will tear our democracy down if that’s what it takes to win,” Obama said, urging voters to “leave no doubt about what this country that we love stands for.”
