PM Modi meets Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at UNGA

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday evening. The meeting took place after Modi's address to the General Assembly.

'Reviewing bilateral ties'

In the meeting, both leaders reviewed their bilateral relations and also discussed how the two countries could increase their political, economic and people to people exchanges. PM Modi, in a tweet, said, "Had the opportunity to interact with the PM of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. India-Greece relations have stood the test of time. We will work to enhance trade as well as people-to-people relations for the benefit of our citizens." 

The Prime Minister also congratulated PM Mitsotakis on becoming the Prime Minister. A press release by the Ministry of External Affairs said, "Prime Minister congratulated Greece for the success of Thessaloniki International Fair 2019 where India was invited as the Honored Country. Both leaders while commending the present status of relationship, committed to forge a stronger economic, trade and investment partnership between the two countries." The two leaders also discussed the threat of terrorism that the world faces while the PM Modi invited his counterpart to India at a date that is convenient to both leaders.

Bilateral and plurilateral 

The Prime Minister has held multiple bilateral and plurilateral meetings during his week-long visit to the United States. He has held meetings with leaders from across the world. He also had meetings with regional coalitions and alliances such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), India Pacific Island States (FIPIC), whereas External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended a meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) nations. The Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs also held meetings to engage with groups such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Commonwealth, Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) nations. 

Besides bilateral meetings, the PM attended a meeting hosted by the government to increase investment in India, which was attended by 42 business leaders from across the United States. The leaders of these companies were from a various number of sectors and industries. At the end of the round table, PM Modi had an individual meeting with as many as seven firms, who have been present in India since a long time and have planned to invest a lot more in India.
