Pompeo: China doesn't respect democratic values

United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday lashed out at China saying Beijing was not respecting fundamental democratic values and urged ASEAN nations to act against China's dominance.

"Don't let the Chinese communist party walk over us and our people. You should have confidence and the American people will be here in friendship to help you," Pompeo said during an online meeting with ASEAN foreign ministers.

Following Pompeo's remarks, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh welcomed US engagement in the region and said its role will help maintain peace, stability and security.
