The White House celebrated Diwali on Tuesday, with US President Trump acclaiming the friendly relations with India and PM Modi. In fact, he called the Indians as "good traders"

Appreciating India's 'art of dealing', US President Trump quipped how Indians are "very good negotiators"

He said, "The United States has deep ties with the nation of India and I'm grateful for my friendship with PM Modi. We trying very hard to make trade deals with India, but they are very good traders. They are very good negotiators. India is the world's largest democracy and the relationship between the two countries can be a bulwark for freedom, prosperity, and peace. You would say right. The best. So we're working. And it's moving along."

During the Diwali celebrations, Trump reassured his friendship with PM Modi saying, "The United States has deep ties to the nation of India and I am grateful for my friendship with Prime Minister Modi," Trump said before lighting the ceremonial Diya in the historic Roosevelt Room of the White House."

He added, "Modi is my friend and now her (Ivanka) friend and has great respect for India and the Indian people that I can say," said the US President as he introduced his daughter to the audience, who was present in the room. "Absolutely," replied Ivanka, who had visited India last year. She was the first top official of the Trump Administration to travel to India.

This is not the first time that Trump has hailed about the relationship United States shares with India. Back in 2017, when PM Modi visited Washington, Trump said,  "The relationship between India and the United States has never been stronger, never been better," said Mr. Trump, who describes himself and Mr. Modi as "world leaders in social media"
