A ring-tailed lemur stolen from the San Francisco Zoo has been found. The 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was discovered missing shortly before the zoo opened to visitors on Wednesday. Investigators found evidence of a forced entry to the lemur enclosure.

Someone called police Thursday evening to say that Maki was spotted in Daly City, a few miles south of the zoo. He was found in a church playground where animal control was able to safely capture and return him to the zoo. Maki was found to be in good health but is isolated from the rest of the lemurs for now.

Investigators in the city of San Rafael, about 20 miles from the zoo, later arrested a suspect, 30-year-old Cory McGilloway. Police say he'll be charged with burglary, grand theft of an animal, looting and vandalism. Police would not speculate on the suspect's possible motive or give details on what led up to his arrest, citing the ongoing investigation. Maki was born at the zoo in 1999 and has an offspring in the enclosure. The outdoor lemur habitat houses seven different lemur species native to Madagascar. Many are endangered.
