In the lead up to the event, conference organiser Matt Schlapp told British broadcaster Sky News that he believed Trump would use his address to take on people who have said some rather unkind things to him.Aides of Trump have said that the former president will use the speech to reassert his power.

Since the conclusion of Trump's presidency, some Republicans have argued that the party must move on from Trump to win back voters who abandoned them in November's presidential election.
