U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams says the government is looking closely at a new strain of the coronavirus identified in the U.K.

Adams told reporters outside the White House on Monday that there is no evidence the new strain is more dangerous.

"So, we're working with the WHO, we're working with the CDC, we're working with the UK to figure out whether this new strain of virus is going to behave any differently," he told reporters.

He added, "This virus is still barely a year old and we're still learning about it each and every day, and we want people to know that we're giving them the best information, the best advice we can, based on what we know now. "

Adams says people should "double down" on the recommendations to wear a mask, social distance, and put off this year's holiday gatherings.
