Texas governor on tropical storm preparations

Abbott said that while the current trajectory puts Louisiana in the storm's path, residents in East Texas need to be prepared.

A storm that appears to be headed for the US Gulf Coast has regained tropical storm force while drenching southern Mexico and Central America.The US National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Cristobal had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) Friday and was moving north at 12 mph (19 kph).Texas Governor Greg Abbott held a news conference on Friday to detail the state's plans for the storm.

Abbott said that while the current trajectory puts Louisiana in the storm's path, residents in East Texas need to be prepared."There could be rising water coming up and there could be short notice before evacuation and we don't know, right now, what may be needed," Abbott said. "The time to get ready for a very quick evacuation would be right now."
