Former President Donald J. Trump returned to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday night firing off his first post in two-and-a-half years shortly after his release from Atlanta jail. In his first post on X since Twitter suspended his account following the US Capitol chaos on January 6, 2021, Trump wrote, "Never surrender", with his mugshot image along with a link to his website, which directs to a fundraising site.
Trump reappeared to X one day after the airing of an interview he gave to Tucker Carlson, former Fox News personality who now broadcasts his programmes on the website.

When Twitter suspended Trump, the firm claimed that his remarks on the platform glorified violence, inciting his fans to storm the Capitol. However, Elon Musk, who purchased the social network for $44 billion in October and just renamed it, stated that excluding Mr. Trump was a mistake. Musk restored Trump's account in November, albeit it had been dormant since then.

The post is a sort of comeback for Trump to one of his most powerful megaphones, which he employed to rule over his opponents in the 2016 primary and to drive the news cycle for years. Trump, who is running for president again in 2024, was often astounded by how rapidly his tweets would go from his account to broadcast news stations underneath the headline "BREAKING NEWS."
