Trump says 'great day for civilization' as Turkey agrees to ceasefire

According to President of the United States, Donald Trump, it is a “great day for civilization” as Turkey as agrees to declare a ceasefire on Northeastern Syria

United States President, Donald Trump said it is a “great day for civilization” as Turkey agreed to declare a ceasefire on Northeastern Syria on October 17 after a week of offensive announced by Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan. US Vice President, Mike Pence along with Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo met with President Erdogan on Thursday and announced that Turkey had agreed to cease the military operation. President Trump also took to Twitter to further say that “this deal” was not possible just three days ago, it was some “tough love” that has finally made it come in order.

'Strong leadership'

While the US President said that people have been trying to strike this deal with Turkey, Pence credited the success to the “strong leadership” by Donald Trump that the US and Turkey have made a deal. However, earlier the Turkish President had confessed that he can not declare a ceasefire and even after President Trump threatened to impose sanctions on the Turkish government along with the ones who were responsible for the destruction in Northeastern Syria. President Erdogan had also said that the sanctions do not bother them and moreover, he said that he can't "keep track of Trump's tweets". Amidst those talks, this deal between the US and Turkey will save millions of lives according to Donald Trump.

Syria: Retaliate with legitimate means

The President of Syria, Bashar al-Assad, while replying to the Turkish offensive launched in northeastern Syria, said on October 17 that the Syrian forces will counter the operation by 'all legitimate means'. The Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan launched 'Operation Spring of Peace' along the Syrian border to create a safe zone on October 9. The first time since the military invasion by Turkey, the Syrian President said, “will respond and confront it in all forms” while using all the means at their disposal.
