US President Donald Trump asked Americans to turn to their faith on Palm Sunday as he spoke at a briefing on the coronavirus outbreak. "We can use this time to turn to reflection and prayer and our own personal relationship with God. I would ask that all Americans pray for the heroic doctors and nurses," Trump says.

The number of people infected with the virus in the US has exceeded 300,000, with the death toll climbing past 9,000.

"With the faith of our families and the spirit of our people and the grace of our God, we will endure. We will overcome. We will prevail. We have learned so much. We will be stronger than ever," Trump said.

For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death.
