Trump to Black voters: Dems disrespect, forget you

President Donald Trump said Friday the nation grieves for the "senseless" deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery. But he said the nation "can never allow mob rule," adding it must always "ensure the rule of law."

Trump made the remarks in Atlanta while unveiling his plan for Black economic empowerment during a two-day swing state campaign blitz targeting African-American and Hispanic voters.

The president strongly denounced Black Lives Matter, saying it's hurting the Black community. "This is an unusual name for an organization whose ideology and tactics are right now destroying many Black lives," Trump said.

He accused the group of chanting "Pigs in a blanket, fry 'em like bacon" - a reference to killing police officers, although it's unclear if protesters who have used the chant are BLM members.

Looking to chip away at some of rival Joe Biden's support among the Black community, Trump declared Biden "doesn't know Black Americans like I do" and announced second term plans to create 3 million new jobs in the African-American community and make Juneteenth--the commemoration of emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S.—a holiday.

"Today's Democrat Party is run by out of touch liberal hypocrites who stereotype you, disrespect you and sell you out," Trump said. "They're only good for your six month period, six months before the election and then...They forget all about you. They're gone."

The Trump campaign believes any erosion of Democrats' overwhelming advantage with Black voters could help the president in close races in battlegrounds, including Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
