President Donald Trump insists the U.S. is "doing very well," as the nation copes with the spreading coronavirus outbreak.

"Some additional people were reported," having contracted the virus, but Trump said "they're in good shape."

Trump is meeting pharmaceutical companies at the White House Monday and said the issue of drugs and vaccines will be addressed.

"Because we're talking about a vaccine, maybe a cure is possible," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office during a photo-op with the Colombian President.

In response to a reporter's question, the president also said it was safe to be holding public rallies during this health crisis.

The number of deaths worldwide from COVID-19 topped 3,000 with expanding clusters of infections in South Korea, Italy and Iran.

But there's some good news out of China, where cases dropped to their lowest level in six weeks on Monday.

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has warned that the world economy risked contracting this quarter for the first time since the international financial crisis over a decade ago.
