US and French top officials are meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss the tariffs dispute. On Wednesday, US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer had a bilateral meeting with French Ministry of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire just one day after US President Donald Trump said he hoped a "big trade deal" could be reached with the head of the European Commission calling on the sides to draw on their similarities as the process unfolds.

Commenting on the ongoing discussions, OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) chief José Ángel Gurría said he remained hopeful of a multilateral deal as there was no plan B on the table, adding "We have to have an outcome here that allows the multilateral solution".
