The nation's first COVID-19 vaccine should be delivered to local pharmacies and other locations within three weeks.

That's according to Army Gen. Gus Perna, the chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administration's vaccine development program. Perna briefed reporters on Saturday near Washington.

"I have 100 percent confidence that we will get the vaccines to the American people and that it will be safe and it will be secure when it arrives," Perna said.

The vaccine was timed to arrive Monday morning so that health workers would be available to receive the shots and begin giving them.

It was unclear who would receive the first dose of the vaccine, though health workers and nursing home residents were the priority. Perna says that decision will be determined by health authorities.
