Democrat strategist Christine Pelosi, daughter of the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, said the U.S. is far away from considering the U.S. presidential lines of succession, after President Donald Trump tested positive for COVID-19.

''At this point, we don't see any evidence that the President is incapacitated, only that he's on a fairly aggressive treatment for coronavirus,'' she told British broadcaster Sky News on Friday.

Two Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee have tested positive for the coronavirus, raising questions about upcoming Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett and whether additional senators may have been exposed.

''You have to consider that the number of people who were in the Rose Garden last Saturday for the announcement of the President's Supreme Court justice nominee, who have now contracted Covid, it is a number that is getting larger,'' Pelosi said.

Many White House and senior administration officials were undergoing tests, but the full scale of the outbreak around the president may not be known for some time as it can take days for an infection to be detectable by a test. Officials with the White House Medical Unit were tracing the president's contacts.

Trump is hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The White House said Trump’s expected stay of “a few days” at the medical facility was precautionary and he would continue to work from the hospital’s presidential suite, which is equipped to allow him to keep up his official duties.
