US university laboratory tests virus face masks

The lab is now testing masks that are distributed throughout the state of Colorado.Researcher Christian L'Orange puts the mask in a chamber and particles are drawn through it. Equipment then counts the number of particles the mask allows through.

Researchers at Colorado State University are testing face masks to see if they meet government standards.The laboratory at the school in Fort Collins, Colorado, usually conducts experiments on air quality and pollution sensors.

The masks have been in short supply due to the coronavirus crisis.The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, but for some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
