White House press secretary Jen Psaki Monday said President Joe Biden was "eager," to visit Texas in the wake of last week's devastating winter storms and said the visit could happen as early as this week. "He has been getting updates from his national security team over the course of the weekend and he wants to go and show his support," Psaki said. The icy blast that hit Texas and much of the Deep South ruptured water mains, knocked out power to millions of utility customers and contributed to nearly 80 deaths.

The White House also defended Biden's nomination of Neera Tanden to lead the White House Office of Management and Budget as moderate Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah said they would vote against confirming her."I think the fact that the president nominated her to lead the budget, to be running OMB reflects his view that she's the right person to be in his cabinet," Psaki said.
