While giving a press briefing on the biggest geopolitical crisis of modern history i.e. the Israel-Palestine conflict, US President Joe Biden walked off in the middle of being asked a question, leaving many people surprised. The 80-year-old US President gave a brief update on how the United States is willing to help Israel counter the Hamas attack and shuffled away when he was asked a tough question. According to the videos which are circulating, the US commander-in-chief was asked if there was an “intelligence failure” in the lead-up to the surprise attack unleashed by the militant group. “Thank you very much,” Biden said as he walked away from the gathering leaving the journalists present at the event in disarray.

However, the 80-year-old US President is known for walking away randomly or uttering incomprehensible sentences. The self-proclaimed “gaffe machine” has delivered ample moments that left the netizens in the split. From falling off a bike and tumbling off the stairs of Air Force One, to making goof-ups during his address, Biden has done it all. However, these frequent gaffes raised age concerns for the US President, who is running for re-election in 2024. Several members of the Republican party even went on to question the 80-year-old’s mental competency. Here are the top 5 moments when gaffe-prone Biden left the world in splits.

Top 5 iconic gaffes of Joe Biden

 1. Biden falls off the bike

In June 2022, the US President stirred headlines after he took a tumble while he was riding his bicycle near his home in the state of Delaware. “I’m good,” he told reporters after U.S. Secret Service agents helped him to recover. “I got my foot caught,” he quipped. While wrapping up a morning ride with first lady Jill Biden, the Commander-in-Chief took the spill when he tried to dismount, apparently falling on his right side and rolling onto his back before being helped up. The White House eventually said that Biden did not require medical attention and insisted that the president was fine.

  2. ‘You try your breast’

During a campaign speech in Pennsylvania, Biden attempted to relate to the common American man. The 80-year-old President went on to speak on the struggle of “trying your own breast”. “Everywhere I have been hearing all around the country, you are trying your breast but it never feels like it is enough,” he said. The proclamation by Biden made him a product of ridicule.

3. ‘‘Where is Jackie?’

While speaking at a White House conference on hunger, nutrition and health, the US President called for Republican Representative Jackie Walorski. In his address which took place in September 2022, Biden asked if she was at the event, forgetting that the Indiana lawmaker had passed away following a car crash in August 2022. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre later said that the Republican congresswoman was ‘on his mind’ during the address.

4. US has 54 states?

The President left the world in shock after he forgot the number of US states. While campaigning for now-Pennsylvania US Senator John Fetterman in late October, Biden said that the US had 54 States rather than 50. The US President was giving his take on the Affordable Care Act. “The Republicans are going to try for the 499th time, or whatever the number is. They're still determined to eliminate the Affordable Care Act,” he said.  "And, by the way, if they do, that means, not a joke everybody, that's why we defeated it in 2018 when they tried to do it. We went to 54 states,” he added.

5. Confuses Ukrainians with Iranians

During his State of the Union speech in 2022, Biden made a massive blunder by confusing the people of Iran with those of Ukrainians. The US President was attempting to condemn Russia by bringing attention to the recent invasion of Ukraine.  "Putin may circle Kyiv with tanks, but he'll never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian (Ukrainian) people. He will never extinguish their love of freedom. He will never weaken the resolve of the free world,” Biden said.

In 2018, while campaigning to win the 2020 US Presidential elections, Biden admitted that he was a “gaffe machine”. “I am a gaffe machine, but my God what a wonderful thing compared to a guy who can’t tell the truth,” he said. “I’m ready to litigate all those things, the question is what kind of nation are we becoming? What are we going to do? Who are we?” he said. While his performance as the President of the United States is up for debate, one thing the world can agree on in Biden’s gaffes kept the whole world hooked.
