President Joe Biden departs the White House headed to Camp David, his first visit there as the President. Earlier in the day The White House announced Biden will seek to close the prison on the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay following a review process. Press secretary Jen Psaki says it's the "intention" of the Biden administration to close the detention facility, something President Barack Obama pledged to do within a year of taking office in January 2009.
Biden also met with a bipartisan group of governors and mayors at the White House as part of his push to give financial relief from the coronavirus pandemic to state and local governments. The relief is a clear source of division with Republican lawmakers who view the spending as wasteful. As part of a $1.9 trillion coronavirus package, Biden wants to send $350 billion to state and local governments and tribal governments.
