Grammys pay tribute to Bryant as ceremony held in 'The House Kobe Built'

As the world of basketball mourned the shocking death of retired star Kobe Bryant, so too did the music industry as the Grammy awards ceremony began barely two hours after news of the fatal helicopter crash.

As the world of basketball mourned the shocking death of retired star Kobe Bryant, so too did the music industry as the Grammy awards ceremony began barely two hours after news of the fatal helicopter crash.

The annual ceremony of for music's biggest award was held in the STAPLES Center, home to the Los Angeles Lakers and made famous by the success of Bryant's teams (1996-2016) after the iconic NBA franchise moved from their old home at The Forum in Inglewood, home of Kareem Abdul Jabbar's and Magic Johnson's Lakers of the 1980s.

In tribute interim Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. opened the ceremony with a moment of silence.

Also attending were figures from the world of sports, including Michael Rubin, co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and other teams, and Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots of the NFL, who shared their memories and thoughts on Bryant.
