Howdy, Modi: Stellar list of invitees likely to attend PM Modi's event

The importance of the 'Howdy, Modi!' event has increased as President Donald Trump has confirmed his presence in the event; here's the rest of the invitees

The importance of 'Howdy, Modi!' event has increased as President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will attend the event. The leaders of the two nations will address a crowd of over 50,000 at the upcoming event on September 22. Apart from Trump, an invitation has been extended to a list of crucial American diplomats and representatives, who are likely to attend the much-anticipated event. This will be the first time a US president will address a huge crowd of over 50,000 Indian Americans.

Here is a list of the invitees who are likely to attend the event

House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, who is a friend of Prime Minister Modi, too, had shown interest in attending the event. However, she will not be able to attend because of her prior commitments. Pelosi had attended Modi's last major public address in the US in San Jose in 2015.

'Howdy, Modi!' event date and time

The doors of the event will open by 5.00 pm for the attendees in order to gather and settle down. The cultural program is likely to start at 8.30 pm whereas the two leaders, Trump and Modi, will arrive by 9.30 pm. At 10.00 pm, President Trump will address the Indian diaspora followed by the Indian Prime Minister taking center stage to address the crowd. (Timings are Indian Standard Time)

The Houston event will be Modi's third major address to the Indian-American community after he became Prime Minister in 2014 and the first after his re-election in May. The previous two were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016. Both the events were attended by more than 20,000 people. The 'Howdy, Modi!' event is being organized by non-profit Texas India Forum, a recently-formed representative body of hundreds of Indian American organizations in Texas and other parts of the US.
