Mexico remains open for international flights as well as domestic transportation. While most countries in the region have implemented a series of measures ranging from closing land borders to banning international flights to protect themselves from what the WHO already defined as a pandemic, Mexico remains open to the arrival of international flights despite criticism from certain sectors of the population.

In addition to predictable health measures such as hand washing, avoiding contact with others by exercising a healthy distance, in Mexico, vacations have been brought forward in all public schools, and all congregations of non-essential people, including sports and political ones, have been postponed. Large sectors of the business community and the general population are preparing to spend the next two weeks in quarantine.

However, a large sector of the informal economy still depends on the income it generates day by day, despite pressure from various sectors of the population to enter absolute quarantine when asked about the effects on the productive sector, López Obrador replied:

"Speaking of money, one thing is, those of us who have a salary secured, and something different is all the people who make their living in the streets. I'm talking about that. We cannot leave these people. We need to defend that economy."

Lopez Obrador said that several economic supports will remain during all phases of the contingency generated by the virus, and others will even be reinforced, such as support for older adults.

Keeping the economy moving is one thing, keeping people and their confidence moving is another entirely. Mexico City's subway typically moves about 5 million people every day.

Each of its 390 trains is normally cleaned twice a month, after the coronavirus outbreak this cleaning is now done daily, and also, an external service of sterilization by nebulization has been hired according to Carlos Fernando Perez Mota, Chief Coordinator of General Services, Mexico City Metro

"We have two sterilization and sanitization processes. The first one that we do regularly. We normally do about one or two times a month. Ever since we are in Phase 1, we sanitize and sterilize daily."

If we enter phase 2, Carlos Fernando Pérez talked about the possibility of sterilizing the wagons with ultraviolet lamps.

Unlike Canada, which banned all non-resident passengers from Canada, and the United States, which declared a suspension of all flights from Europe, Mexico is keeping its airports open after implementing a series of measures that hope to gain the confidence of the most critical sectors of the population.

Yareli Perez Hernandez Head of the International Health Unit at Mexico City Airport implemented a health security protocol which she presented to the media on Wednesday:

"As flights arrive, they go through the thermographic camera, but they are also monitored with those infrared thermometers, with which each passenger temperature is checked. All international flights come here"

Only in the last two days the positive cases of coronavirus in Mexico went from 53 to 83 with a worldwide total of more than 213 thousand cases, many people think the country is not diagnosed enough.

Almost everyone recovers from the new virus, which often causes only mild symptoms, such as fever and cough. But for some people, particularly older adults and people with pre-existing health problems, it can cause more serious illnesses such as pneumonia.

For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.

The vast majority of people recover from the new virus. According to the World Health Organization, people with mild illness recover in about two weeks, while those with more severe illness may take three to six weeks to recover. Worldwide, more than 185,000 people have been infected and more than 7,300 have died. Over 80,000 have recovered, most of them in China.
