US: Protesters gather in Portland; police fire tear gas

Police used tear gas to disperse crowds as protests in Portland continued on Saturday night.

Hundreds of people gathered for Black Lives Matter rallies as the often violent nightly demonstrations that have taken place for the last 100 days showed no signs of ceasing.

Molotov cocktails thrown in the street during a march sparked a large fire and prompted police to declare a riot.

Tear gas was used to clear protesters from what police said was an unpermitted demonstration.

Demonstrations in Portland started in late May after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
