US President Joe Biden’s gaffes went beyond the frequent tumbles and fumbles after the 80-year-old leader thanked the President of Vietnam with a photograph of the wrong leader. The American commander-in-chief made a brief visit to Hanoi in an effort to strengthen ties between the US and Vietnam. On Monday, Biden made a goof-up on X, formally known as Twitter, by referring to the wrong leader as the Vietnamese President. The goof-up stayed on the internet for a while before it was deleted from his official Twitter account.

“President Vo Van Thuong, thank you for such a productive meeting. This partnership is about unleashing our peoples’ potential and, with it, a range of incredible possibilities,” the POTUS wrote on X. However, the image he posted along with the tweet, did not feature the Vietnamese President Vo Van Thoung. It was an image taken when Biden greeted Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. While the tweet was swiftly deleted from the POTUS’ profile it was not replaced eventually.

Rather a tweet emerged in which the 80-year-old President thanked the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Phạm Minh Chính. “It was great sitting down with Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính of Vietnam in Hanoi,” Biden avered on X. “Between our U.S.–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our new Semiconductor Partnership, the future we’re writing together will be strong,” he added. While the blunder was brief, it has attracted the attention of X users. “Whoops! Biden deletes tweet thanking the Vietnamese President with a photo of the WRONG leader. Confusing leaders is becoming a habit for the forgetful President. This latest social media blunder is leaving many questioning Biden's competence on his Asia trip,” one user exclaimed.

A messy press briefing

US President’s gaffes were well on display as they rumbled and fumbled during a press conference in Vietnam. On Sunday, Biden’s address to the media was cut short by his staffer after the US President went on a rambling spree. Biden’s mic was muted and jazz music started blasting after the President’s murmurs and pauses left the reporters confused. Eventually, the President urged the staff to intervene and the whole ordeal left the internet in splits. “I'll just follow my orders here. Staff, is there anybody that hasn't spoken yet? I ain't calling on you,” the US President exclaimed.

During the press conference, Biden admitted that his staffers told him beforehand the journalists he’ll take questions from. "They gave me five people here," the American commander in chief avered.  However, he told the media that the reason behind his ‘clumsiness’ is the fact that he has been touring around the world for five days. "It is evening, isn't it? This around the world in five days is interesting," he avered. Not only this, Biden eventually went out of the camera frame in the middle of being asked a question by a journalist. Overall, the US President’s tour to Vietnam was filled with gaffes and stumbles, whether it was offline or online.
