The SenoSalud NGO makes wigs for women suffering from hair loss as they go through chemotherapy.

Some of the wigs are free while others are sold at a low cost.

According to studies carried out by SenoSalud together with other NGOs, 15 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in Venezuela every day.

Dr. Ludmila Calvo, the head of SenoSalud, said mortality rates from the disease were rising because hospitals did not have enough resources to make quick diagnoses.

The hair donation event at a mall in Caracas was part of this year's campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Radio broadcaster David Colmenarez was among those who had his hair cut.

"I said, 'I'm going to do it from now on to help people' because if there are people who have that beautiful connotation with my hair, why not let a person who doesn't have it, either due to circumstances, cancer, alopecia, some kind of different disease, to have it," he said.
