Dhaka: As the minority Hindu population in Bangladesh continues to face violence, several idols were damaged and vandalised just as the festival of Shardiya Navratri began on Wednesday. Early in the morning of October 3, Islamists attacked the Sri Sri Gopinath Temple in the Botrish area of Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh.

The attackers reportedly destroyed all the Murtis (idols) in the temple, including those of Durga, Laxmi, Saraswati, and Ganesh. Despite efforts by local Hindus to protect the idols, they were unable to stop the destruction as the attackers fled the scene.

Shardiya Navratri , a significant Hindu festival, celebrates the divine feminine energy of Goddess Durga over nine nights. The festival is marked by fervent worship, rituals, and cultural performances, with each day dedicated to a different form of the goddess, symbolizing strength, compassion, and wisdom.
