Months after rumours circulated that bears in a Chinese zoo were disguised humans, new footage of pandas sitting and eating like people at Chongqing Zoo reignited skepticism among viewers.

The animal sanctuary in mainland China showcased four beloved black and white bears walking to a table, sitting on chairs and charmingly eating a meal in a human-like manner within their enclosure. Doubts of deception quickly emerged on social media platforms, including X.

According to the Daily Mail, one user commented, “Sure it isn’t someone in panda suits?”

“This video just reinforces my theory that pandas are actually humans in panda suits. That’s not a real animal,” added another.

“I wouldn’t even be mad if it was someone in a suit. At least that’s another bear free,” a third added. Yet, some accepted the pandas at face value.

The four-member dinner echoes last summer's episode at Hangzhou Zoo, where a Malaysian sun bear named Angela, displaying remarkably human-like behaviour by standing on her hind legs, raised suspicions. Following the incident, the zoo has experienced a 30% surge in visitors, now attracting a reported 20,000 people daily.

The public's response highlights the fine line between amusement and skepticism regarding animal behaviour in captivity. It emphasises the importance of transparency and reassurance from authorities to address concerns and uphold trust in the authenticity of zoo encounters.
