Germany's Robert Koch Institute on Tuesday said that the country had registered a 4,615-case increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases from the day before.

The head of the Institute, Professor Dr. Lothar H. Wieler, presented a total of 61,913 Covid-19 cases as of Tuesday.

That was an increase of 4,615 cases since Monday, with a total of 583 reported deaths so far.

However, Wieler added that 16,100 people have recovered from the disease.

Wieler also said that by Easter a trend in how the virus is spreading should become clearer.

Asked if he expects higher mortality rates in nursing homes and old people's homes all over the country, Wieler replied that "the chance that the people who are infected become seriously ill or die is much higher than compared the healthy and younger group."
