The 31-year-old American right-wing political activist, Charlie Kirk, was shot dead on September 10. The tragedy took place when he attended an outdoor campus event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was an outspoken ally of Donald Trump, and his death has been dubbed a ‘political assassination’ by many. He was also the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organisation Turning Point USA.

Charlie Kirk's background and personal life

Born on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Kirk developed an interest in politics at a young age. He briefly attended Harper College before leaving to pursue activism full-time. In 2021, he married Erika Frantzve, a former Miss Arizona and entrepreneur. The political activist is a father of two - a girl born in 2022 and a boy in 2024. Kirk often spoke publicly about his Christian faith and family life, framing them as central to his worldview.

Charlie Kirk co-founded TP USA at just 18

In 2012, at just 18, Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a nonprofit organisation aimed at mobilising young conservatives on college campuses. Under his leadership, TPUSA grew rapidly, establishing hundreds of chapters across the country. Over the years, Kirk became one of the key players in the pro-Trump network and became largely known for his ‘Make America Great Again’ advocacy. Turning Point enthusiastically backed Trump after he clinched the GOP nomination for president in 2016. Kirk served as a personal aide to the then-candidate’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., during the general election campaign. The President of the USA, Donald Trump, has often credited him for bringing in youth supporters for the Republican Party in the 2024 election. His close alignment with Trump elevated his profile, but also drew criticism from opponents who accused him of spreading divisive rhetoric.

Contributions to the group doubled and then tripled — eventually climbing to $79.2 million in 2022, according to an analysis of publicly available tax filings. The group states that it now has a presence on nearly 4,000 high school and college campuses, operating as a conservative lifestyle brand that promotes hundreds of online influencers.
