Tesla Inc. is gearing up for its much-anticipated entry into the Indian market by setting up company-owned showrooms in two prime locations—Select Citywalk in Saket, Delhi, and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, according to sources who spoke to Republic Business. This move, if true, would mark a significant step in the Elon Musk -led firm's strategy to gain a foothold in the growing Electric Vehicle (EV) market in India.

Industry insiders, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Tesla has secured premium retail spaces in two of the most prominent commercial hubs in the country.

"Select Citywalk in Delhi is a renowned shopping and lifestyle destination, while BKC in Mumbai is a key business district home to multinational firms and luxury brands. These locations are expected to serve as Tesla's experience centers, allowing prospective buyers to explore the brand’s EV lineup and advanced technology,” a revealed a source privy with the company's plans.

Tesla Inc. has not yet responded to an emailed query regarding this development. This report will be updated once the company provides an official statement.

While Tesla is yet to announce an official launch date for its vehicles in India, the establishment of these showrooms, if confirmed, would signal the company’s commitment to engaging with Indian consumers. Additionally, there is growing speculation that Tesla may introduce popular global models like the Model 3 and Model Y.

Experts believe Tesla’s retail strategy is a well-planned effort to penetrate the Indian EV market, which is currently dominated by domestic players such as Tata Motors and Mahindra, alongside international brands like MG, BYD, Hyundai, etc.

“These locations attract high-income consumers, which aligns with Tesla’s target market. By positioning its stores in high-traffic, upscale areas, the company aims to build brand awareness and generate interest among potential buyers. Additionally, these cities have a relatively higher EV adoption rate and a growing base of luxury car owners,” said Anuj Kejriwal, CEO & MD of Anarock Retail.

Kejriwal added that selecting such prime locations reinforces Tesla’s premium brand positioning, allowing for direct customer interaction, test drives, and education on EV technology. “It also paves the way for future expansion, showcasing Tesla’s commitment to the Indian market,” he noted.

Further fueling speculation about its imminent foray, Tesla recently listed 13 mid-level job openings in India on LinkedIn. The roles span customer service, vehicle maintenance, sales, business operations, and marketing, suggesting that the EV giant is actively preparing for its entry into the country.
