Apple iOS 17: Apple's upcoming iOS 17 update, scheduled for release on September 18 for iPhone models XS and newer, will not immediately include all the features that have been announced. Some key components will be delayed for later versions, like iOS 17.1 or 17.2, with iOS 17.1 expected to debut in the coming months.

Features that won't be available as part of the September 18 update include the Journal app, which aims to provide iPhone users with a comprehensive platform to document their daily experiences and memories. This app goes beyond simple text entries and allows users to include photos, music, and audio recordings. It also offers tailored suggestions based on the user's recent activities on the device.

Entertainment features

In terms of entertainment, Apple Music users can look forward to the Collaborative Playlists feature, although it won't be part of the September 18 update. This feature allows multiple users to collaboratively add, reorder, and delete songs in a shared playlist, making the Apple Music experience more social and interactive.

A functional enhancement for the AirDrop service is also on the horizon. In a later 2023 update, content transfers via AirDrop will no longer be restricted to physical proximity. As long as both the sender and recipient are logged into iCloud accounts, transfers can occur over the internet even if the devices are out of AirDrop range.

Additional iOS 17 features are expected to roll out later in 2023. These include the ability to react to messages using any sticker through the Tapback menu, a catch-up arrow for group conversations in the Messages app, a 'Favourite Songs' playlist in the Music app, intelligent form detection for PDFs, and an 'Audio Focus' feature for Apple Fitness+ that allows users to prioritise either the music or the trainer's voice.

In terms of sign-in convenience, Apple ID proximity sign-in will soon be possible with a trusted iPhone or iPad when setting up a new Apple device. These updates reflect Apple's ongoing efforts to enhance user experiences and introduce new features across its ecosystem.
