A consortium led by FIL Industries has initiated construction on India's longest ropeway project, which will connect Dehradun and Mussoorie. The mono-cable ropeway, costing Rs 300 crore, is expected to be operational by September 2026, as per a company statement.

The ropeway, spanning 5.5 kilometres and developed by the Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt, features FIL Industries as the primary stakeholder and includes SRM Engineering LLP and technology partner POMA SAS France.

FIL Industries Pvt Ltd has highlighted that this ropeway will significantly reduce the 33-kilometre road journey between Dehradun and Mussoorie, which currently takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on traffic, down to a mere 15 minutes. Furthermore, this project introduces a novel feature in India: 10-seater cabins. These cabins are fully enclosed, well-ventilated, equipped with glazed windows, and feature automatic opening and closing doors. Initially, they will have the capacity to transport up to 1,300 passengers per hour in each direction.
