Amartya Sen's daughter, Nandana Sen, has dismissed the rumors surrounding her father's demise, putting an end to the false reports that had circulated widely on social media. On X formerly known as Twitter, Nandana Sen posted a message declaring, "Baba is totally fine," accompanied by a photograph of herself and her daughter alongside the Nobel laureate.

Friends, thanks for your concern but it’s fake news: Baba is totally fine. We just spent a wonderful week together w/ family in Cambridge—his hug as strong as always last night when we said bye! He is teaching 2 courses a week at Harvard, working on his gender book—busy as ever! pic.twitter.com/Fd84KVj1AT

In her reassuring statement, Nandana Sen expressed her gratitude for the concern but clarified that the news of her father's passing was entirely untrue. She revealed that they had recently enjoyed a wonderful week together as a family in Cambridge, with her father displaying his usual vitality and strength during their farewell hug. She also mentioned that Amartya Sen remains actively engaged, teaching two courses weekly at Harvard and diligently working on a book related to gender studies.

How did the rumour start?

The erroneous report had gained traction after an account, purportedly belonging to Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin, posted about Amartya Sen's supposed demise. Subsequently, the same account admitted to being a "hoax (account) created by Italian journalist Tommaso Debenedetti."

Nandana Sen's X profile provides further evidence of her recent visit with her father. On October 7, she shared a couple of photos capturing moments of a delightful lunch shared with Amartya Sen, while another image depicted Amartya Sen reading a newspaper to his granddaughter.

Lovely lunch w/ Baba! Question is, can we finish what’s on our plate?

Most certainly, if I’m eating! I’m famous in my #family for my big appetite (challenged only by my daughter Meghla)—esp. when I’m with people I love.
